Vaccinations protect your pet and significantly reduce the severity of infection and disease. Vaccinating pets also protects owners from zoonotic diseases, which are diseases that are transferable from animals to humans.
Southwind Animal Hospital recommends puppies be seen at approximately 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18 weeks of age and kittens seen at approximately 6, 10, 14, and 18 weeks of age. These visits will include a comprehensive physical exam, client education, and booster vaccinations. We like to separate our booster visits to reduce reactions and to encourage antibody production as maternal immunity wanes.
Adult pets between the ages of 1 to 6 years should be seen annually for a comprehensive physical exam, fecal and heartworm tests, to administer vaccine boosters (when necessary) and to continue flea, tick and heartworm preventatives.
Senior pets ages 7 and older should be seen twice yearly for wellness exams and six months later to help monitor for changes in health or other common age-related illnesses.
